(6) Job openings at Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong and National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan 1) Asia-Pacific Economic Association (APEA) conferences in 2008 and 2009 (a) APEA conference, Beijing, December 13-14, 2008. This conference, the fourth annual conference of the association to be hosted by the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), will be held on the campus of the university. (b) APEA conference, Santa Cruz, June 26-27, 2009 Call for Papers Economics are invited to submit papers or extended abstracts for presentation considerable or to organize sessions of common themes. Papers in all economic fields, empirical or theoretical, not necessarily related to the Asia Pacific, will be welcome. Please send (preferably via e-mail, with a subject ¨APEA 09 submission〃) a paper or an extended abstract to either Joshua Aizenman
or Shin-ichi Fukuda. The deadline for submission is January 1, 2009. To organize a session, please send the information, including the theme of the session, papers to be presented, and information (e-mail address, affiliation, and mailing address) of authors, co-authors, and discussants (if any). The deadline for submitting session-organizing information is February 28, 2009. (2) Advanced Training Program in Seattle, 2008 and 2 Theory Surveys The second Advanced Training Program on Research and Publication was held in Seattle from August 11 to 29, 2008. 28 junior faculty and graduate students from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, and Mexico attended the program. There were 17 speakers giving lectures on how to do research and how to write and publish papers in international journals. Three of the speakers acted as mentors of a group of junior faculty, giving comments on their work. Two of the mentors presented the following surveys, which are scheduled to be published by World Scientific Publishing Company: -- ¨Financial Aggregation and Index Number theory: Implications for Monetary Policy and Financial Modelling, A Survey,〃 by William A. Barnett and Marcelle Chauvet -- ¨A Survey of Dynamic Games in Economics,〃 by Ngo Van Long
(3) Trade workshops in Beijing, November 22, 2008 and Hong Kong, February 28, 2009 The Research Center of International Economics at the University of Washington (RCIE @ UW), the Research Center of International Economics at the University of International Economics (RCIE @ UIBE), and the Department of Economics, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) are jointly organizing a workshop series on international trade and related fields. The first one will be held on the campus of UIBE, Beijing, on November 22, 2008 and the second one on the campus of HKBU on February 28, 2009.
