在考研的面试试题中，可以说这是个比较敏感的问题。很多考生也能感知到这一点，所以在面对这个问题的时候，多数考生通常会着重强调学校的学术氛围，导师水平。但是，不是所有的考生选考的院校都能在全国同类专业中排名在前；此种情况下，考生从这个角度阐释报考原因就略显尴尬了。事实上，一个高校的优势是综合的:学术优势，地域优势，环境优势，就业优势等等。
