文章不必全看懂，大概就可以了

With other audiences you mustn’t attempt to cut in with humor as theywill resent an outsider making disparaging remarks about their canteen or theirchairman. You will be on safer ground if you stick to scapegoats like the PostOffice or the telephone system.下面是对应的问题，看看同学能不能做出来。

我不小心打错了，这是文章的第三段：先看第一句，让人不爽的是第一句话就很长，完全没有让你轻松看懂的意思，怎么办呢？当然我们可以利用主干阅读和片语阅读等方法帮助大家把句子大意猜出来，可是在这么做之前，我们先想一想有没有必要把这个长句子完全看懂呢？事实上，做题真正指导我们阅读的硬道理，题目不问，细节完全没有必要掌握。带着这样的指导思想，我们就应该把一眼就能看懂的部分先掌握，然后把长难复杂的部分先搁置不理，粗粗看一眼即可，不求甚解。一旦后面题目真的涉及了，我们再回来认真细看，想办法把不理解的地方搞懂。

选项A：benefited many people之意无法从文中推出，属于典型的无中生有。B选项同样是无中生有。
选项C：刚好与题意相反。根据文义，public services应是an appropriate subject for humor。
选项D：在排除了A、B、C后，该选项顺理成章就是正确答案，the laughing stock是“笑柄”的意思。根据常理可以推测，laughing stock这样的习语既然不太可能被大多数考生认识，放在D选项中只能是在通往正确选项的道路上多设置一道陷阱。
