a penny for your thoughts (catchphrase 警语) (used to ask sb what he is thinking about 用以问某人在想什麽).
据说当时有这种说法的时候1便士在英国可是很值钱的哦,所以想知道别人在想什么,就得付出点代价.
例句:
--A penny for your thoughts.
想什么呢？
--Oh, I was just thinking about how to tell him I'm leaving.
哦，我在想怎么跟他说我要走了。
二、【burn the candle at both ends】
burn the candle at both ends: exhaust oneself by trying to do too many things 由於超负荷地工作而耗尽精力; 操劳过度.
把蜡烛两头烧,没多久就会烧完的.所以累了就该多多休息,
